Teaching a new module at the Bartlett
The long standing traditional MSc of Lighting & Lighting at the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies will be changing its curriculum slightly this year by adding now modules. One of them being the Evolution of Lighting Design. The history of the profession has been short but dramatic. Within 2 centuries, sources moved from flame-based to gas to electricity operating lamps and finally to LEDs. Designers evolved alongside changing constantly their interests, their backgrounds but most importantly their questions about what matters most in the design of lighting. The new generation of lighting designers and those who will follow will need to ask some new questions and resolve new problems. But understanding the past is the best tool for capturing the problems of the present & the future.
